Prior to attending law school, Ryan graduated with a degree in Journalism from Brigham Young University-Idaho and worked for two years as a sports journalist as well as web editor for Deseret Digital Media in Salt Lake City, Utah. At Brigham Young, Ryan was the News and Sports editor for The Scroll student newspaper and received the Newel K. Whitney award for character, diligence, and pursuit of excellence. .
Ryan completed the Entertainment and Media Law Advocacy concentration program, and was one of only three students (out of 350) to meet the concentration's rigorous academic requirements. Loyola's Entertainment Advocacy program focuses on entertainment litigation, and combines the study of topics such as trademark, copyright, privacy, motion picture and television production and finance with practical litigation skills such as legal drafting and trial advocacy.
Ryan is also a trained mediator under the California Dispute Resolution Programs Act.
